Cole Sprouse in Manila

Cole Sprouse, star of Netflix’s hit coming-of-age drama-thriller “Riverdale,” arrived in Manila on April 18 for a fan meet-and-greet on April 20 at the SM Mega Fashion Hall and Glorietta Activity Center.

A Netflix representative told us that Sprouse’s visit to Manila has nothing to do with Netflix or “Riverdale” as he arrived here through Filipino apparel brand Bench, for which he is an endorser.

On April 19, Cole’s tweet that simply said “Manila Manila Manila!” garnered over 90,000 likes and 14,000 retweets.

Bench owner and founder Ben Chan also shared several photos of Cole upon the latter’s touchdown in Manila.

“It’s official – @colesprouse is here!” said one of Chan’s captions.

“Let’s give @colesprouse a warm welcome to Manila,” another caption read.

Cole is the twin brother of Dylan, and both first became known for respectively playing Cody and Zack in the Disney Channel series “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.” The twins’ characters in the series have also appeared other Disney Channel shows like Miley Cyrus’ “Hannah Montana.”

Cole, however, has appeared alone as Ross Geller’s son in the NBC TV sitcom “Friends” and as Billy in the Ashton Kutcher-starrer “That ‘70s Show.”

A graduate of Humanities specializing in Archeology at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study together with his brother, Cole worked briefly in archeological excavations and lab work.

Cole also took photography classes at the New York University and has been commissioned to shoot for Teen Vogue, The Sunday Times Style, and W Magazine, among others.

Since 2017, Cole has been starring as Jughead Jones in the CW TV series “Riverdale,” available in the Philippines through Netflix.

Cole is reportedly dating his “Riverdale” co-star Lili Reinhart, who, together with their other co-star, Camila Mendes, was recently involved in a controversy.

James Reid Is the New Face of Sunnies Studios

It’s official: Sunnies Studios‘ newest face is none other than James Reid, headlining one of the local brand’s biggest campaigns of 2018.

Martine Cajucom, the label’s Creative Director, says of their latest poster boy: “We weren’t looking for the Sunnies Studios version of an “internet boyfriend,” we definitely wanted someone more dynamic, more creative; a unique individual who brings more than just a cute face to the brand. He’s authentic, he’s chill, and he has the kind of talent that only hard work can bring—we think [James] is a good fit for Sunnies Studios.”

We agree. Chill, unassuming, and professional, James does things for the thrill, not the trophies. “I listen. I still listen to a lot of different things these days, only because I don’t want to get stuck saying the same thing everybody else is saying. I like being different,” the Never Not Love You leading man shares, musing about his creative influences. James might always be the first one to break the rules, but his passion to change the game is what caught Sunnies’ attention in the first place. He’s a star, but beyond that, he’s also just a guy trying to live in his moment. “I’m just here. My work, my music, my real life – and I’m just trying to have a good time.”

“James Reid came out of left field for me – but the more I saw him, the more I understood. The more I liked what he brings and represents. I love his music, I love his alternative spirit, his [being an] artista is atypical and I love the fact that he’s always worn Sunnies Studios,” Georgina Wilson, Sunnies’ Marketing Director, says.

“Planning the shoot for James,” Martine begins, telling us about building the visuals of this campaign. “We thought about bringing back the spirit of our old campaigns way, way back to the beginning of the brand. We would shoot a lot of our images guerilla-style, with a really lean team. The charm of it was not knowing what you’ll get until you get there, capturing a lot of real moments along the way. For James, that’s basically what we did. For the visuals, we were inspired by the soft, sun-dappled lights and the eighties prep vibe from the film Call Me By Your Name – we booked a 12-hour mini vacation to a poolside villa outside of the city. A couple of books, some good food, music, it was a few fun hours spent with James and our photographer Cenon Norial III. Seeing the images now, we think we were able to capture a different side of James, a side that’s closer to something real.”

7 Ways to Feel Empowered As a Woman

We all admire strong and confident women who can take charge of their lives. And while we may think that only a certain few can achieve this, any woman can feel empowered.

As a strong supporter of women, Solane, the country’s top LPG solutions company, shares these simple tips to help women – from young ladies and professionals to mothers – gain self-confidence:

Exercise more. They say it’s easy to feel confident when you have an active lifestyle. Regular workouts will not just improve your physique but also improve your mood and decrease feelings of depression, anxiety and stress.

Embrace your imperfections. Nobody is perfect. Accept your imperfections. View your qualities in a positive way so you can gain more self-confidence and become one of those strong women you admire. Keep striving for personal growth and work hard to improve yourself. List down all your unique characteristics, strengths and abilities and enhance them.

Dream big. And don’t be afraid to go after your dreams! Make a vision board to illustrate your goals and remind you of all the goals you want to accomplish. An empowered woman knows that, with courage, perseverance and belief in herself, she can achieve anything she sets her mind and heart on.

Be independent. When was the last time you did something without the help of others? Have you ever tried dining out alone? Being able to do things on your own is truly empowering because it helps you know yourself better. It also shows that you are strong enough to face any situation. So, go ahead and travel or watch a movie alone. Don’t keep yourself from doing things you want to do just because there’s no one to go with you.

Help out. Join a charitable cause you or volunteer for a program you believe in. Giving back to the community and helping others will make you feel good about yourself.

Pursue your passion. One of the most rewarding things you can do is to pursue your passions. Whether it’s travelling, building your own business or applying for the job you really want, don’t be afraid to go for it. Never give up. Surround yourself with positive people who will encourage you.

Keep learning. An empowered woman doesn’t stop learning. Not only will it keep your brain healthy and active but learning something new will strengthen your bond with family and friends. How to Dreadlock Your Hair Naturally if You Are a White Girl

Dreadlocks can be a fashion statement, fun, spiritual or just a new style, and even white girls can have them despite differences in hair quality. Dreadlocks are a very specific hair style but, while some types of hair do dread easier than others, anyone can have dreadlocks. It takes some time for the dreadlocks to really set, but you can get them started and have the look of a head full of dreadlocks in a few short hours with the right process.

Step 1

Wash your hair with a residue free shampoo. Residue from hair products will remain on the hair and cause it to be more difficult to create and maintain the dreadlocks.

Step 2

Towel dry the hair.

Step 3

Section the hair before beginning to form dreads. Part the hair down the middle and put half of it into a clip. Work on half of the head at a time. Part the remaining side into two sections, a top and bottom. Put one section in a clip. Piece the remaining section into small squares to form the dreads. For thinner hair, usually a 1-inch square is a good size, this makes a dread about the size of a No. 2 pencil. If your hair is thicker, make the squares smaller. Separate out square sections with the comb and wrap a rubber band around the hair to secure it. Continue to make sections until that half is done, then repeat for the other half of the head.

Step 4

Bend forward so you hair is hanging down and spray on the accelerator spray. This is not always a required step, but for finer hair it helps the process. Follow the specific instructions on your brand of accelerator as to how much and how close to spray.

Step 5

Start forming dreads with a piece from the back on the bottom. Remove the rubber band. Grasp the strands in your hand, running them between your index finger and thumb and across your palm. Place the comb up close to the scalp on the hair and push upwards. Allow the comb to push and pack the hair close up to the scalp. Roll the hair in your fingers as you comb to release individual hairs and help with the twisting motion.

Step 6

Work all the way to the bottom of the hair, continuing to push the hair up and pack it together with the comb. Turn the dread in you hand and comb it up in all directions as you work. When that dread is complete place a rubber band on the very end to hold the dread until it “matures” and is trained. Once dreads mature they hold themselves together.

Step 7

Move on to the next section and continue back combing the dreads until they are all formed. Check them all over carefully to make sure they are fully packed and back combed and no loose areas have worked out where the hair is easily parted.

Step 8

Take a small amount of wax, about the size of a pencil eraser, and rub it together between your thumb and forefinger to warm and loosen it. Apply to the first two or three inches of the dread. Work it in well until you can’t feel it anymore. Get another dab of wax the same size and continue waxing down the dread until it is completely waxed. The wax should not feel heavy or sticky, it should work into the hair. Roll the dread back and forth in your palms and lock the hair into the wax. Wax all the remaining dreads.

Step 9

Roll your dreads every day and add wax on those where you can no longer feel any. Twist any stray ends up into the tips to form blunt ends. When the dreads are mature and stable you can remove the rubber bands.

Step 10

Wash your dreads gently in residue-free shampoo every three days, or at least once a week. Clean dreads lock up faster than dirty ones, and contrary to rumor dreads are very clean and sanitary if well maintained. Add wax as necessary when the dread feels dry and you can’t detect any wax.

10 Casual Wardrobe Essentials for Men

Take a look in the mirror. Are your jeans bagging at the knees? Is that sweater you’re wearing the same one your mom got you for Christmas eight years ago? Face it dude—it’s time for a wardrobe revamp. Now, before you get all weirded out, this isn’t like a “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”-style intervention. It’s a simple list of classic pieces every guy should own…and it includes gym shorts, OK? So check out our list of the top 10 style must-haves for men.

1. Straight-Leg Jeans

Straight-leg jeans are a great middle ground for guys who aren’t into a super-skinny pant. They’re tailored enough to make you look put together, but will give you more “leg room” (so to speak) than the skinny hipster alternative.

2. White Crew Neck T-Shirt

It’s time to toss those grungy Hanes t-shirts you’ve been wearing since you were 12. We know the cheap 4-packs from Target are tempting, but now that you’re an adult, invest in a well-made version. Trust us, you’ll notice a major difference in both the fit and feel.

3. Belted Trench Coat

Don’t let a rainy day dampen your style. Traditionally, old-school trenches (think Sherlock Holmes) were worn below the knee, but today, contemporary styles favor a shorter cut. Stick with black, navy or khaki; avoid browns which are better suited for older folk, like your grandfather.

4. Classic Grey Sweatshirt

The true sign of a stylish man? The way he dresses while relaxing. It’s easy to fall into the trap of sloppy loungewear, so don’t be a victim. Ditch the hoody with the name of your college emblazoned on it, and go for a plain, fitted crew-neck sweatshirt instead. They’re just as comfortable and will convince people you’re a grown-up (even if you still crush beers like a frat boy).

5. Colorful Socks

Think of your socks as the great differentiator between you and your suit. A man who likes to blend in with the crowd will inevitably go for basic black… but a man with bravado isn’t afraid of throwing a little color into the mix.

6. Versatile Blazer

One of the easiest ways to dress up an outfit is by throwing on a blazer, and buying a great one doesn’t necessarily need to break the bank. Make matching easy by choosing a solid or very subtle pattern. It’s the perfect refined-yet-casual piece that’s a must-have in every man’s wardrobe.

7. Lace-up Leather Boots

Kick your style up a notch with a great pair of lace-up leather boots. If you choose the right pair, you’ll be able to wear them with both jeans and trousers. Lean toward a shoe that looks more formal, rather than rugged.

8. Weekender Bag

We trust that you’re no longer using a backpack…right? Just making sure. For a short trip or a few nights crashing at your girlfriend’s apartment, opt for the trendy-man’s duffle: a weekender bag. Leather bags are great, but if you’re on a budget, cotton or nylon works just fine.

9. Colored Running Sneaker

You play it safe all day at the office, so why not have a little fun when it comes to the sneaker you wear at the gym? Plus, in our experience, cool kicks make for a great conversation starter with the hot chick on the elliptical.

10. Comfy Sweatshorts

Looking for workout gear that can double as lounge wear? No sweat(s). The ideal pair of shorts are those you can wear to the gym, and then wear to grab lunch (without looking like a schlub). They should fall somewhere in between loose and form-fitting, and should always hit just above the knee.
