Islas Pinas, an indoor “Filipino Food & Heritage Village” and a new, distinct destination for both local and

international guests, is now open at the DoubleDragon Plaza, DD Meridian Park, Macapagal Avenue corner EDSA Extension, Bay Area, Pasay City, Metro Manila.

Designed to showcase the abundance and vibrancy of the Filipino culture, this new establishment lets guests discover, explore and experience the Philippines’s heritage sites, natural resources, hospitality and most importantly, its cuisine.

The result of collaboration between DoubleDragon Group and Chef Margarita Forés, Islas Pinas is a project that aims to inspire love for the Philippines and to cultivate patriotism by showcasing the country’s beautiful sites and diverse regional cuisines. With a seating capacity of over 700 seats in an expansive 2,500 square meter space, Islas Pinas is the perfect place to give visitors a taste of the best that the Philippines has to offer.

ISLAS PINAS also hosts an authentic Sarao Jeepney, which for many generations became the king of the Philippine streets especially in the countryside.

“DoubleDragon has always believed in embarking on projects with relevance. We believe Islas Pinas will be a landmark in the country, and will showcase the diversity not only of our cuisine and handicrafts but also our landscape and architecture brought about by the rich heritage and culture of the country,” says

DoubleDragon’s Chief Investment Officer Hannah Yulo.

At the helm of this project is none other than Asia’s Best Female Chef of 2016, Margarita A. Forés whose

mission is to bring Filipino cuisine to global prominence. Thus, Islas Pinas is a vision coming to life for her, where Filipino food is not just on the sidelines but at the centerstage.

“This is an absolute dream project for me that has come at such a perfect time,” said Forés. “I give my thanks to then Undersecretary of Agriculture, now Secretary of Tourism Berna R. Puyat, for putting me together with the DoubleDragon group, who was looking for someone to operate this amazing Islas Pinas project about half a year ago. This fast-tracked such a blessed opportunity to continue pushing my biggest advocacy – that of helping to promote the best our country – our cuisine, ingredients, farers, artisan producers and home cooks from Batanes to Jolo – in the best way I can!”

It is her aim for guests to experience the Philippines with their five senses and beyond. Thus, aside from the culinary delights and a picturesque interior design worthy of Instagram posts, the venue will also feature modern and traditional cultural performances and games to ensure a fun and truly Pinoy ambiance.

SINAG, the Tagalog word for ‘ray of light’ offers all-day Filipino breakfast favorites like our TAPSILOG (TAPa – salted beef, SInangag – fried rice and ItLOG – fried egg) and Batchoy, an Ilonggo noodle soup with pork offal, crushed pork cracklings and beef loin.

or legend, tells the story of the different regions of the Philippines through its signature dishes. BILAO is coined after the woven winnowing basket where comfort snacks like pansit (fried noodles) and puto (rice cakes) are usually served, while PANADERYA offers neighborhood bakery favorites such as pan de sal and kalihim. TUSOK-TUSOK, on the other hand, offers urban street food finds like barbecue on stick, isaw (grilled chicken intestine) and kwek-kwek (fried quail eggs).

PANULAK or beverage is where the samalamig (cold drinks with different flavors) will be available. Lastly, PAMPANG or shore will allow guests to enjoy chosen fresh catch cooked to their preference.

All these will be available daily, without the scorching heat and pollution as the space is fully airconditioned. Located at the bustling DD Meridian Park in the Bay Area along EDSA Extension and Macapagal Avenue, Islas Pinas can be easily accessed using both private and public transportation.

“Because of the ideal location of DoubleDragon Plaza at DD Meridian Park – our close proximity to the airport terminals and being only about 5 minutes away from NAIA X – we believe ISLAS PINAS will become a must-visit stopover for both domestic and international tourists visiting the capital,” said DoubleDragon’s Chairman Edgar Injap Sia II.

ISLAS PINAS is the main anchor of DoubleDragon Plaza, which forms part of the 4.8 Hectare DD Meridian Park commercial and office complex.

James Deakin on Fatherhood, Forgiveness, and Having No Time to Wait

TM_James Deakin on fatherhood_photo

James Deakin is a man who wears many hats. Who doesn’t recognize him? He’s a TV anchor, event host, motoring advocate, blogger, and social media personality. But with his multifaceted persona and the hectic schedule that he keeps, it’s his being family man, a loving husband and father to three kids, two boys and a girl, that he values the most. It is no wonder then that Technomarine chose to honor James, a truly exemplary dad, this Father’s Day.

“Time, it’s the most precious commodity,” Deakin relates when asked about the biggest challenge of being a father. “The harder you work, the more successful you become, the more time becomes precious. So it gets very hard to find that balance.”

His daily schedule can become as erratic as the next, starting as early as 5 am. As someone who doesn’t keep a regular office job, making time for his family is indeed a challenge, one that he doesn’t back down from. But there are compromises, he admits, especially since he has to work to earn a living for his wife and his growing brood.

“It’s very hard to manage the time, which is why I actually have someone else to do that for me,” Deakin says. “If you get too emotionally invested [in] your schedule, you tend to make the wrong decisions.”

Thus, James makes sure that his weekends are kept free and devoted solely to family time. He is grateful too that his wife Shelly is there to pick up the slack, to manage the day-to-day affairs of the household and take care of his kids while he is abroad. “She’s a wonderful mom and an extremely understanding wife.”

He also makes sure that they take off to the beach during the holiday season up until the New Year.  They have done so for the past 18 years, each time a priceless and memorable bonding experience.

Another memorable moment was being able to take his family abroad to Australia. “Going overseas with them was really nice,” Deakin says. “That’s the goal: to do family vacations overseas that’s not attached to work, like take 5 or 6 days off.  I really want to do a cruise.”

When asked about his parenting style, James is quick to admit that he’s hardly a strict father. “We give them a lot of leeway,” he says, “We don’t put a lot of pressure on them at all.” He would, therefore, like to be remembered as being a flexible, easygoing, and cool dad.

Still, he finds that being honest with his kids is very important, and he draws the line with alcohol and substance abuse. “We don’t sugarcoat. I want to equip them with the tools to make the proper decisions so they will know the consequences of their actions. “

And as for his advice to other dads, James turns sentimental.

“Don’t strive for perfection as we live in an imperfect world. Strive instead for honesty and love,” he says. “Be forgiving and teach them about forgiveness. Set an example.”

Indeed, as James shows us, time is truly valuable. And with Technomarine bringing meaning and joy to fatherhood, as you build wonderful memories with your loved ones, there’s simply no time to wait.
